Sgt. Tommy's 2008 Fishing Day Press Release
 Print

On August 9th, 2008  Sgt. Tommy's Kids and the Illinois Smallmouth Alliance will be hosting a very special free kids fishing day at Herrick Lake. This event is geared toward children of Military personnel and their families.  The inaugural event in 2007 was successful in putting rods and reels into the hands of nearly 200 kids.

Sgt. Thomas M. Gilbert, 24, of Downers Grove, Ill., paid the ultimate sacrifice on Oct.25, 2006 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.
Thomas was an avid fisherman, deeply passionate about everything related to the outdoors and loved to spend much of his time fishing at this facility located in DuPage County .

While a child's mother, father, brother, sister, aunt or uncle is fighting abroad, we feel it is important to extend Sgt. Gilbert's passion for the outdoors and his willingness to share these virtues with everyone around him.

The event features fishing, Kids Casting instruction, lunch, crafts geared toward the outdoors, games and much more.  Every child will leave with a rod and reel to take home with them, in the hope they will continue to enjoy the sport of fishing long after the day is complete.

All attendees must sign-up in advance, with an application available on the following website:
