GOLF OUTING 2020
Tenth Annual Sgt. Tommy's Kids Golf Outing
Thank you to all who attended our Tenth Annual Golf Outing on Saturday, September 26th, 2020 at Village Greens in Woodridge, IL. The golf outing helped raise over $15,000 to support the efforts of Sgt. Tommy's Kids, including our Family Fishing Day. This is an incredible outcome for a normal year, much less one with the challenges that 2020 brought. Thank you!
If you would like to join our email list for 2021 please email us at info@sgttommyskids.org.

FISHING DAY 2020
Fifteenth Annual Sgt. Tommy's Kids "Virtual" Family Fishing Day
Sgt. Tommy's Kids Family Fishing Day 2020
About Our Virtual Family Fishing Day
Supporting the Community
Sgt. Tommy's Kids Family Fishing Day 2020
- This year marks our 15th annual Sgt. Tommy’s Kids Family Fishing Day, and we have been so excited to enjoy it with you all. That said, it is clear to us that 2020 is not a normal year, and we can’t progress with the Family Fishing Day in the same way that we have in years past.
- The Family Fishing Day is not cancelled. In fact, it is more important than ever that we spend time outside with our loved ones and enjoy all of the natural gifts around us. The team at Sgt. Tommy’s Kids has been hard at work to determine how we can best serve the community – encouraging youth appreciation and education of the outdoors – in a safe and healthy way.
- This year, we’re asking you to join us in Sgt. Tommy’s Kids’ first ever virtual Family Fishing Day. On Saturday, June 20, the Sgt. Tommy’s Kids family will grab our poles and head outside. We won't be meeting at Herrick Lake, but we'd still like you to join us. Here’s how.
About Our Virtual Family Fishing Day
- We want all of you to Take it Outside with your family, learning to fish and enjoying nature – and you don’t need our typical event to do it.
- Mark your calendar for Saturday, June 20 – that’s when our Family Fishing Day would have been. Head outside, have an adventure, and take pictures! We’d be honored if you would tag us (@sgttommyskids or #sgttommyskids) so we can see how you are remembering Tommy this year.
- We’ll provide some helpful tools along the way. In the days leading up to our event, our volunteers will share instructions on how to correctly tie your fishing pole. We’ll also offer fun and easy crafts and snack ideas you can make at home. Plus, we’re working on a list of nearby fishing spots to give you an idea of where to go. Make sure you’re following @sgttommyskids on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter so you don’t miss this content.
Supporting the Community
- This is a difficult year, and we want to support the community just as the community has supported us. A portion of our 2020 Family Fishing Day budget will be repurposed to support local charities.
- From Memorial Day through Labor Day, every time you tag Sgt. Tommy’s Kids (@sgttommyskids and #sgttommyskids) in social posts about your outdoor adventures, we will donate $5 to local charities (up to $5,000). This money will be distributed between COVID-19 relief funds that support our front line heroes and others in need.
- Finally, please stay safe. Please practice fishing safety (read this for more information) and follow social distancing guidelines as recommended by experts. We are excited to see you all healthy and ready to go for our Fishing Day in 2021!
ABOUT US
The Sgt. Thomas M. Gilbert Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that exists to promote youth appreciation and education of the outdoors.
Tom was the type to take on challenges with both enthusiasm and appreciation. He enjoyed working with children and had a great love for the outdoors. As Tom traveled the world, he was able to enjoy both of these. He was the type of person that when he was around children he would take them under his wing. Some of his best memories were of playing soccer with the children in Djibouti Africa when he was stationed there or being around the many kids he met during his time in Iraq.
In his honor, this foundation was created to combine two of his greatest joys and we will work hard to create something he would be proud of.
