Programs and Grants 

Sgt. Tommys Kids (The Sgt. Thomas M. Gilbert Memorial Foundation), is a 501(c)3 organization that exists to promote youth appreciation and education of the outdoors. We strive to get children outside, staying active and experiencing nature, but we can’t do it alone!

We are happy to sponsor programs that work towards our goal of getting children outside. Grants are considered on an annual basis for Chicagoland organizations that share similar goals.

Past Programs

• ​Sponsorship of local camps aimed at outdoor appreciation.

• Funding of outdoor activities and Field Trips for Chicago Children​

• Sending area classrooms to outdoor education class​​

• Donations of fishing poles, snowshoes, butterfly nets, and other outdoor items to local forest preserves​

We just received word that your foundation is kindly and generously paying for our buses to get our sixth graders to camp in March! I teach at a very at-risk building where many, many families don't have the money to pay for camp or take their families on outings such as camp. Many are working so hard (2,3 jobs) that they unfortunately don't even see their children. So, that being said, you are doing a really amazing thing.

My family and I attended the fishing event on Satureday for the first time.  To summarize our experience in one word - FABULOUS!  The entire volunteer team was so helpful and courteous.  Our kids REALLY enjoyed the day.  Fishing, activities and just enjoying the good ol' outdoors as a family.  We'd like to express our thanks for the invitation, and for the generous support of the sponsors.  Honestly, it was the best fundraising event I've ever participated in.  It's a great cause and we are committed to supporting it in the future!
